Contradiction Tuesday: Who is the Father of Joseph?

Jesus’ earthly father, Joseph, has a curious genealogical quirk.

And Jacob begat Joseph the husband of Mary, of whom was born Jesus, who is called Christ. (Mt 1:16)

versus

And Jesus himself began to be about thirty years of age, being (as was supposed) the son of Joseph, which was the son of Heli. (Lk 3:32)

Unassailable contradiction?  Nope:

The use of the word contradiction in this post is strange to me. Cory Tucholski, to help clarify, is this a contradiction?

A group of four students miss an important exam. The teacher contacts them individually and asks them why they are late. All four say: “we were driving together to the exam, and the car had a flat tyre.” The teacher re-contacts Person1. “Which tyre was flat?” “The front drivers side”. The teacher re-contacts Person2. “Which tyre was flat?” “The front passenger side”. The teacher re-contacts Person3. “Which tyre was flat?” “The rear drivers side”. The teacher re-contacts Person4. “Which tyre was flat?” “The rear passenger side”.

    Is that a contradiction?
